Our blackberry bushes are starting to bloom which means blackberry season is around the corner. Honestly, I love growing and picking blackberries as much as eating them. Wild blackberry patches are scarce where we live. In fact, they might be non-existent. I don’t recall seeing a patch since we’ve lived here so I planted some in my backyard. I manage to keep them under control but it requires some work. They send out long runners and will take over your property if you let them. New shoots pop up in places quiet a distance from the primary plant.
For this recipe, I used the last frozen bag from last year’s harvest. Our yield from this year’s harvest might be pitiful. I severely pruned the plants later than recommended so their growth is behind schedule.
Oh, well. We’ll get what we get. We’ll have to get while the gettin’ is good. Make hay while the sun shines. Don’t count your berries before the chickens come home from the woods.
Perhaps I’m able to control my blackberries but I seem to have lost control of my fingers.
Y’all come see us!
