Ginger Peach Sweet Ice Tea amplifies Southern Sweet Tea with the addition of warm, spicy ginger and sweet summer peaches. Perfect for porch sippin’ material.
The summer weather in the Deep South is great fodder for complaining. It’s hot and humid and sticky and steamy and miserable. And mosquitoes just about take us off. We constantly talk about it being hot just as if there’s some poor souls that live here who aren’t aware that it’s so hot we are all about to fall out. If you’re here, you know it’s hot. However, we still feel obliged to talk about just how hot it is as we sip on our glasses filled with ice and Ginger Peach Sweet Ice Tea.
Considering the fiery state of the ambient temperature and the considerable length of time the fiery state continues, we drink lots of cold beverages. Southern Sweet Tea is the perennial favorite. Lord knows, we drink it by the gallons especially this time of year. While it will remain the all-time favorite beverage, there’s nothing wrong with changing it up from time to time and maybe adding some seasonal fruit such as nice ripe peaches which are luscious, gorgeous and have summertime written all them. Oh, for Pete’s sake. We’re back to talking about summer. It’s so hot we’re withering on the vine.

Ginger Peach Sweet Ice Tea
yield: 2 quarts
8 cups cold water, divided
1 lemon, sliced
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger or 2 inches of fresh ginger, sliced
2 family size teabags (I prefer Luzianne)
1/2 to 1 cup sugar (depending on taste preference and sweetness of peaches)
2 peaches, pureed
Place 4 cups cold water, lemon and ginger in medium-sized saucepan and bring to boil. Remove from heat, add teabags, cover and let steep for 10 minutes. After the tea has steeped sufficiently, place sugar in pitcher and strain the hot tea mixture into the pitcher containing sugar. Stir well until sugar dissolves. Remove pits from peaches and place peaches in food processor with about 1/2 cup of the sweetened tea mixture. Puree. Strain and add peach mixture to pitcher along with remaining 4 cups of cold water. Stir well. Serve over ice.

I can’t remember the last time I had a glass of Luzianne ice tea. Ahh memories. 🙂 I do remember the summer heat in the south.
Jackie Garvin says
Maureen,
Luzianne Tea is just the best. I well remember when my Grandmother made the declaration that she was switching from Lipton to Luzianne because it doesn’t “turn cloudy”. 🙂
lindygsherrod says
Luzianne Tea is a tradition in my family, my Mama used it and so do I, THE best sweet tea (or hot) ever.
Jackie Garvin says
I agree with you!

I am so thrilled to have won the cookbook. I just love this blog and all the southern interaction that goes on between us all! Jackie, I was just up in your neck of the woods (Mobile AL) and it is hotter there than it is here!!! It was 102 while we were there – and oh the humidity!!! LOL. This peach tea sounds yummy!
Jackie Garvin says
Ann,
Congratulations on winning the cookbook! You will love it and find lots of good recipes to make Christmas even more special than it already is.
Mobile is miserable this time of the year. Even “miserable-er” than it is here. And….July is ever worse. I hope you managed to stay cool during your visit. 🙂
Jean says
One thing about it..it does get hot here in the south…but you know I hate cold and you can always drink some of this wonderful tea and sit under the AC!
Jackie Garvin says
Jean,
I think anywhere you live in the continental US, you’ll have at least three miserable months. You just need to decide if you want to be hot and miserable or cold and miserable. Some unfortunate souls miserable on both extremes. As much as I complain about the heat, I would rather live here than in a cold weather climate. I complain about the heat to keep carrying on my duty as a Southerner in the Deep South. 🙂

You go girl!!! Tradition is tradition!!!
Mary at Deep South Dish says
I just recently posted a peach tea myself Jackie & you know what? Though I didn’t use it on that post, I swear that pitcher and those glasses are identical to my Mama’s. Sure looks it. I have no idea where they came from but I inherited them when she passed. Small world! I like the addition of ginger – great idea! And of course for me, it’s Luzianne tea all the way. It just really makes a perfect iced tea!
Jackie Garvin says
Mary,
The pattern is Mikasa which is very popular! I love it and have several pieces. I don’t use that pitcher as much as I would like because I’m so afraid it will chip. Plus, due to the way the spout is made, you can’t turn it upside down for it to dry. So, I save it for special occasions.
I like the flavors of ginger and peach. I even use a little ginger in my peach cobbler.
I finally got this tea down pat so the peach flavor doesn’t overwhelm the tea. I love it! Drinking right now as a matter of fact!
I’ll come visit and take a look at your Peach Tea. I’m sure it’s fabulous. All your stuff is! 🙂

Congrats to Ann. Thanks so much for the Peach Tea Recipe. I love Peach tea and this version sounds heavenly. We are starting to see good peaches in our market so I’m going to try this.
Jackie Garvin says
Joan,
I hope you enjoy some Peach Tea during this peach season! 🙂

You know, this week here in Dallas we’ve had 45% humidity and 100 degree temps. I feel like a dang crawfish in a steamer pot. I’m practically bathing in tea … and I love peach tea… but I never thought about putting ginger in it! Looks yummy !
Jackie Garvin says
Forty-five percent humidity sounds like Heaven to me. We’re around 80% in central Florida and have escaped to Boston South Shore for a bit of a reprieve.

Hello I’m trying to make a 3 gallon batch of Ice for a ladies tea and was wondering if you would adjust this tea in any way? Also what is a ginger peach in the ingredients list? Thank you. Kathi
Jackie Garvin says
Hi Kathy,
I would follow the recipe for the proportions. I think the title of the recipe got included in the ingredients list. I need to edit that out. Hope you enjoy the tea.
