When the great folks from Fresh from Florida asked me to create a post for them, I was most happy to oblige. We’re a family that consumes lots of fresh produce and seafood. As Florida residents, it’s important to us that we do our part to support the Florida economy, farmers, fishermen and shrimpers by purchasing Fresh from Florida as often as possible. Be sure to read the entire post to get my recipe for Simple Roasted Sweet Bell Peppers with Herbed Goat Cheese.
I can’t even begin to estimate the amount of products I’ve purchased with the Fresh from Florida seal. It’s a ton.
Maybe two tons.
The quality and variety are consistently good. I’ve never been disappointed in either. My local Publix carries lots of Fresh from Florida products. If you’re having a difficult time locating them at your grocery store, talk to the manager. Let him know that you want to purchase produce and seafood from Florida farmers, fishermen and shrimpers.
Living in Florida has many advantages. One of those advantages is that Florida farmers make it possible for us to eat beautiful, colorful, nutritious produce year-long. While most of the rest of the county is battling winter and frozen grounds, our Florida farmers are harvesting crops such as tomatoes, peppers and strawberries. Because of them, we can eat fresh all year.
Walking through a well-stocked grocery store produce department in the dead of winter is a happy event. It’s even better knowing there’s a variety of that wonderful winter produce grown locally in Florida.
I love our farmers. I’ve always loved farmers. And I will continue to support local farmers and fishermen.
During the winter is when those gorgeous Fresh from Florida strawberries hit the market. A trip to the grocery store during strawberry season isn’t complete without a quart or two of strawberries. One of my favorite ways to use Florida strawberries is to roast them and serve over ice cream. Here’s my recipe. If you’ve never roasted strawberries, you’re missing out on an indescribable taste experience. All the good of strawberries is amplified when they’re roasted.
And then you put them on top of ice cream.
As good as strawberry shortcake is, roasted strawberries on ice cream is serious competition.
A favorite snack of mine is sweet bell peppers. I eat them like they’re going out of style.
I eat them with sandwiches instead of chips.
I eat them on salads.
I eat them roasted.
I pack them for road trips.
I just eat them. They offer up goodness and nutrition and keep me from snacking on stuff that goes straight to my hips. Know what I mean?
My preference is red, orange and yellow over green. I cook with green bell pepper more than I eat it raw. You’re likely to always find sweet bell peppers in my refrigerator. I look for the Fresh from Florida seal and buy from Florida farmers when their winter crop of sweet bell peppers is available.
I’m happy to share my recipe for Simple Roasted Sweet Bell Peppers with Herbed Goat Cheese made with Fresh from Florida sweet bell peppers. It makes a wonderful side dish or a vegetarian main dish. I’d serve this at a family dinner or for company. Me, myself, and I enjoyed it for lunch today. All three of us.
So, look for the Fresh from Florida seal and enjoy the winter produce that our local farmers, fisherman and shrimpers have to offer. For more recipes,, check out the Fresh from Florida recipe site. Also, look for them on Twitter and give them a holler.

I’ve been hankering for a strawberry pie and have just not done it. This may remind me. I’m talking about a cooked strawberry pie, not one of those refrigerator ones.
