Dutch Apple Pie

Ingredients

  • yield: one 9-inch pie
  • preheat oven to 400 degrees
  • A store-bought pie crust makes easy work of this pie. The topping is a delicious crumble mixture. After filling the pie shell with the apple slices place it on top of a prepared baking sheet before spreading on the crumble topping. Let the baking sheet catch the crumbles for you.
  • 1 prepared 9-inch pie crust
  • make the filling:
  • 8 1/2 cups apples peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon or lime juice
  • make the topping:
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar firmly packed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter cubed
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar

Instructions

  • make the filling:
  • Add all ingredients to a large mixing bowl. Stir until apples are well coated.
  • Pour into the prepared pie crust. Mound apples toward the center. Place on a baking sheet covered with aluminum foil.
  • make the crumble topping:
  • In a same mixing bowl you used for the filling (no need to mess up another one), add flour, brown sugar, butter cubes. Rub in the butter with your fingers, or use a pastry blender, until the mixtures looks like crumbles.
  • Sprinkle crumb topping evenly over apple filling.
  • Bake in a 400 degree preheated oven for 50 minutes or until topping is brown and filling is bubbly.
  • Let cool before serving.
