Yes, I had known about the pier, I had been home 2 yrs ago and that’s when I got to see Pelican Island had finally hit the beach. It had been working it’s way closer and closer every year.
As for those nasty gas rigs.. I hate them! They have ruined Dauphin Island’s pristine views of the Gulf of Mexico. Why are they there and so close to the Island ?? MONEY ! The people who own land on DI get what use to be called mineral rights checks. This may if changed since then, but with everything these days money was the motive .

I thought you would enjoy this post about your hometown. I didn’t put this in the post but it was so sad to me to see so many oil platforms. I couldn’t believe how close they were. It felt like you could reach out and touch some of them. I support our quest to decrease our dependency on foreign oil. But gosh, does everyone have to drill in the same place? And why are they giving licenses to drill so close to shore? Had you seen pictures of the pier before seeing them in my post? What a shocker! Thanks for the link. I will enjoy reading it.

I’m happy to hear you found your blue crab claws, at the Topless Oyster Bar. Many of the local restaurants on the Island are not serving local seafood. The oil spill ruined the sea life and it has not recovered. Many restaurants have their seafood shipped in from Maryland.

West Indies Salad, so many memories of my grandma come to mind. She was an excellent cook!
And West Indies Salad was one of many of her specialities .
